Louis Nicholas Kachnik

June 3, 1965 ~ April 8, 2024

Born in: Chicago, Illinois
Resided in: Lone Star, Texas

Stargazer and Project Manager, Louis Nicholas Kachnik passed away on April 8th, 2024 moments after watching the total solar eclipse on his porch with family. Lou had been waiting for this event for years, and invited everyone to share in his love of astrological events and the hospitality of Lone Star, Texas. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early February of 2024. Lou’s battle with cancer was short, but dignified.

Lou grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He married his high school sweetheart, Josie, on July 25th, 1987. They had three daughters together, who were the joys of his life. They spent 31 years in the Las Vegas area; then moved back to Lone Star, Texas where they first met.

He served his country for 12 years in the Army Reserves and retired as a Captain. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management at UNLV. He began his career at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, installing their first computer network. He found his passion in Healthcare IT, where he spent the rest of his career. He found a special skill in Project Management, and he returned to Walden University to earn his Masters in Business Administration. His work ethic was unparalleled. He was taking work calls while waiting to see the oncologist about his chemo treatment. From his bedside, he asked for his work laptop and phone. He was determined until the end to take care of his family.

Lou is survived by his wife, Josie; his daughters, Kelsey Norval (Ryan Norval), Krista Kachnik, and Kay Kachnik; his grandson Charles Norval; his siblings Kim Graves (Brad Graves) and Chris Kachnik (Sabrina Koetter); and many dear family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marion Kachnik and Phyllis Kachnik.

Lou and Josie’s lives have always been a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. To honor that, we will be having a funeral service in Boulder City, Nevada on April 19th, 2024 and a burial service in Daingerfield, Texas on April 27th, 2024.

Josie and the girls appreciate all the prayers, messages and outpouring of love from all of you. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Rose Dominican Health Foundation at supportstrose.org or Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 1305 Bert St, Daingerfield, TX 75638.
